Hey everybody. Sorry for the slight silence today. I’m still trying to get back into the swing of things after an awesome Thanksgiving Holiday. I truly am thankful for so many things. Yesterday and today I’ve been pretty wiped out though. I have a sneaking suspicion that it has to do with eating a wee bit too much sugar but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it in the moment.
So our car finally kicked it today. I got the dreaded call from the King who was stranded on his way to work this morning. So I threw a coat on the Youngest Princess (who thinks everything is an adventure), tossed on a coat over my PJs and put on flip flops (BRRR), scraped ice off of the window with an old CD because I could find nothing else, and away we went. So let’s just say we’ve officially filled out the toe tag (or tow tag if you will) and she’s gone (repairs would cost beyond what we’d want to pay for it and we don’t have the mechanical know how to fix it ourselves). We’ve had the car for about nine years so it’s kind of like losing a friend.
Luckily, we have my parents’ truck to drive for awhile and we don’t really travel much at all so we’ll not stop the snowball to buy anything new and the emergency fund will stay in tact. Right now, I’m looking for a church or non-profit organization in our area (southside of Indianapolis) who takes well loved vehicles, refurbishes them, and then gives them away to those in need. We think it would be more advantageous and generous for us to go this route rather than just junking it. Anyone know of a place?
In other news, we enjoyed ham week so much (and $1.29/lb Spiral Hams at Aldi were too difficult to pass up) that we’re going for a round two this week. It’s in the oven baking as we speak and mmmm it smells good. I’ll get the meal plan up for the rest of the week in order next. And I have so many freebies to update you on that I can barely contain myself (plus a few Holiday sales as well). Hope you all had a fabulous holiday. Please know that I’m thankful for each of you who read my ‘lil ‘ole blog. You make me extremely happy. Thanks for sharing our journey.

I’m sorry to hear that your car did in fact kick the bucket. I can’t imagine you will be hard pressed to find a taker for it, but here is one other option: Car Talk (NPR show) Vehicle Donation Program, http://www.v-dac.com/cartalk. They tow it away for free, fix it up enough to take it to auction and the proceeds go toward supporting your local NPR station. It is also a tax deduction, which they should promptly provide you a form for, for proof when filing next spring. BTW, I DO NOT work/volunteer for WFYI/NPR nor receive money/compensation in any way. I’m just a huge fan and thought I’d pass along another option for retiring your vehicle for a good cause. Apparently, you can do it all by email too-no lengthy phone calls! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tip Lady Heidi. I too love NPR and PBS so it would be great. We’re still carefully selecting the best charity for the car. I just dread cleaning it out. There’s a lot of stuff in the trunk. 🙂
